Studio
Gallery artist, director and curator Nelleke Nix founded 3 galleries in
Seattle when she moved to that scenic city in 1968. She noticed great
interest from her art students in the contemporary art she had brought
with her from the Netherlands and France. She decided to open a
combination Studio and Gallery where the public could
find quality of what was then called "young art" from here and
from abroad. When she had time to look up after 10 years of
growing and moving the gallery to larger locations, she not only found
she had no longer time for her own art work but she discovered a
flourishing art-scene in the city with over 500 galleries. At that
point she felt there was no longer a need for her gallery to be open
every day and the gallery morphed into a "floating" gallery. The
gallery only presents the excellent but under-exposed, the exciting and
worthwhile and the wonderful hidden work by artists of any age and
background. Art fairs, galleries and museums nationally and
internationally. After selling the permanent gallery in 1983 the studio
has conducted one month long exhibitions curated by Nelleke Nix by
invited artists in Kirkland, WA, Soaplake WA, Staten Island NY, Long
Island City NY, and NY NY. The business has been in existence
since 1970.
